Indian Taker Interview (California Emo/Punk)

First off, state your name(s) and role in Indian Taker.

Hey, Evan plays bass, Nick takes care of vocals, Celso plays guitar and Joe plays drums.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?

We would call it punk/emo, but more so it just comes out as whatever it wants to be. Bottom line, punk songs about sad stuff.

What are your band’s main influences?

We all have different influences, ranging from Punk, Pop Punk, Emo, Hardcore Punk, Jazz, Metal, etc. Anything that is DIY.

There seems to be a similar fan base between pop punk and post hardcore bands. I think The Wonder Years and La Dispute probably share a lot of the same fans. Why do you think this is?

It's a culture connection, both TWY and La Dispute are passionate about their music and seem to hold strongly to their DIY community. They both write about things that kids can relate to, plus they both have a connection with No Sleep.

What’s the Hardcore and Pop Punk scenes like in Modesto, California.?

Non-existent. Nick and Evan were both in a pop punk band about a year ago, besides that it is pretty bare. Kids out in Modesto are really into Indie and Metal-core stuff. In Stockton, about 45 minutes from here, there is a pretty big pop punk and hardcore foundation due to the fact the "Plea for Peace" venue is running over there. Second to Last and Place Called Home are from that area.

You recently released your debut EP “Tule Fog”. How did that come together?

The four of us have been playing music for a while now in various bands. We started writing in October of last year, as Indian Taker. The five songs songs on "Tule Fog" are the first five songs we have written under this name.

How was it recording at Panda Studios?

It was an awesome experience recording there, Ben Hirschfield engineered our EP. The Panda Studio is a great, professional place to record. It was great to record in the same place as The Story so Far, Stickup Kid, Seahaven, The American Scene, Sabertooth Zombie, No Sir, and Stateside. We will definitely be back there to record our next EP with Ben.

What's your favourite show that you've played so far as a band?

We have only played a handful of shows so far, but each show gets progressively better and better. The first show was a house show, we got an awesome response from everyone there. That show really hit it off for us.
Do you have any plans on touring?

We will definitely be touring this summer, hopefully a couple weekend tours before summer. For our summer tour we plan to do a two week long tour along the west coast.

Do you have any upcoming shows that you would like to promote?

March 11th at Plea for Peace Center in Stockton w/Tiger Lily (Fresno, CA), Cabin Fire (Fresno, CA), Blood Pig (Stockton, CA), 51-50 (Stockton, CA) and our friends in Place Called Home (Stockton, CA). That show will be off the hook.

Thanks for your time. Any final comments?

Thank you for YOUR time. Check out Second to Last, Place Called Home, Alacer and Stickup Kid.
