Bathurst Interview

First off, can you state your name and role in Bathurst?

Jason and I sing.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?

We are a punk rock band from Toronto playing the type of music that we grew up on. style wise it's like 97-2002 era punk. We have been called pop punk, melodic hardcore amongst other things. We leave it up to the listener to decide and take what they can from our music!

How do you feel about our current pop punk scene in Ontario?

I think it's great! Growing pretty quick! Some of the bands we enjoy a lot from the area are... June and July, Brighter Brightest, Attention!, Junior Battles, Permanent Bastards, Like Pacific. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone...... sorry!

You recently released your 2-song debut EP “Hello Bathurst”, for free. How did that come together? Is there going to be a follow up anytime soon?

Yes we released a two song ep last week and the response we have gotten has been amazing! A lot of cool people have posted it like your blog! Melodic bears crew and punknews.org! We had been talking about doing a four song ep but decided to do 2 instead. The song forty hours will be on an upcoming full length that we have begun to work on, and the other song "better left unsaid" will not.

You guys have only been a band for a short period of time, but you’ve already played with the likes of Fireworks, Man Overboard, The Dangerous Summer, Transit and Such Gold. Do you have any big shows lined up in the near future?

We played our first show last August and a lot has happened since then! We have been lucky to play with a lot of bands that we really love and have made a lot of new friends along the way! Travis @ wegotthemovement, Timur and Indoor Shoes in Niagara, and Pat @ Union Events Ontario have all been a really big help and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts!

What has been your favorite show you’ve played so far?

I’m not sure if I can narrow it down to just one! A lot of our shows have been amazing! Most recently the scene music festival in St. Catharines was great, we played a tiny little hallway of a club and it was so packed we couldn't move! Every time we play with our friends June and July and Rust Belt Lights it's always a good time!

What’s the weirdest thing that has happened at one of your shows?

lol that’s tough, not too much has happened! It’s always weird for me to see people singing the words that I wrote back at me! (I’ve seen you up there!) It also boggles my mind that we have gotten fans writing to us from Japan and Argentina! But it's also a really awesome feeling! But maybe the weirdest thing us as a band has done is had a bocce ball tournament outside a show!

Do you have any plans on touring soon? Perhaps in the U.S?

We would love to get to the U.S!, as of right now we have no immediate plans to tour in the near future, we just want to get our full length out and go from there! Who knows what will happen, I’m sure we'd all love to tour if it's possible

What can your fans expect for the rest of 2011?

Our 7inch ep "hello bathurst" will be out very very soon, as well as our full length hopefully before years end, if not soon in the new year. Other than that we will be playing any show we can get our hands on and h aving beers with as many new friends as we can possibly make!

Any final comments?

Get Ready For This Interview

First off, can you state your name and role in Get Ready For This?

I'm Juan Francisco(A.K.A. Pony)and i play guitar and write some lyrics for GRFT.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?

Well, i have to say that that we play catchy pop-punk, with easycore elements such as breakdowns and stuff like that, plenty of synths that reminds you of old school video games; when it comes to the lyrics, of course that they will remind you past and failed relationships mixed with a video game themed background.

How’s the pop punk scene in Mendoza, Argentina.

Basically there's no such thing as a Pop-Punk scene, i mean there's a couple bands that label theirselves as Pop-Punk; personally i don't like any of them but who cares, what i can say is the Pop-Punk in our country is way too delayed, i mean people is still stoked on bands like goldfinger, millencolin, lagwagon and those cool bands from the 90's but man it's 2011 and there's a lot of awesome bands in this era.

Are there any bands from Argentina that you could recommend?

Mmmm to be honest i'm not that into the bands from Argentina, but there's a band that we like, it's called Smile, they sing in spanish but they're cool; i also can recommend you The Bear Season, a band from Uruguay (a small country too close to Argentina), they are awesome!

What bands have influenced you the most?

First off i have to say that New Found Glory, cause they are like the Godfathers of the easycore movement haha, but we also are strongly influenced by French Easycore bands, like Chunk! No Captain Chunk!, Can't Bear This Party(Gods), Sail To North. All Time Low, Four Year Strong, Man Overboard and a thousand more, we also have to say that we love Anamanaguchi.

Video games seem to be a big influence on your music. What are some of your all time favourite games?

This is THE question! haha. When it comes to video games i'm such a nerd dude. Some of my favourite games are: Sonic The Hedgehog 3(Sega), Contra (NES), Captain Tsubasa 2 (NES), Double Dragon, TNMT II the arcade game, Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi Budokai 3 (PS2) and a lot of old school games. But on weekends when we meet with the dudes for playing some sweet video games, we'd go with some RockBand or Left 4 Dead.  Personally i can't wait to get my PS3 to play Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game!

How did you feel about the Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon?

Man! i grew up playing the Sonic games for my Sega Genesis, way back when i was a lonely kid, so in some ways Sonic was my best friend; i also got a Sonic The Hedgehog tattooed on my arm.  About the cartoon series, i must admit that i can barely remind the episodes cause i was young but it was nice to see my friend on the TV, nice memories.

Any plans on recording a full length?

Yeah, it's on our plans recording a full length, in fact we're in the work of new killer songs for a full length album, but we want to take our time in the composition of the songs. So, get stoked on it! cause GRFT is here to stay! for a long long time.

What’s your favourite place to play live?

Honestly we haven't played yet with GRFT; we all have played in another bands but not with this one. But we love to play everywhere, i mean it's cool to play in a party or in a show plenty of bands, we don't really care of the other bands as long as our friends will be there supporting us, it's always good to reach new crowds.

Do you have any upcoming tours planned?

Planned, we wanted to tour everywhere we can! but nothing confirmed; but right now we're in "negociations" with the bear season's manager to set up a mini tour to Uruguay/Chile with the bears, so, we're more than stoked on it!

What can your fans expect for the rest of 2011?

A lot of gigs and parties! maybe that tour i said before. Maybe a single or a music video, it's on our plans but you have to stay tunned for more updates.

Any final comments?

First off, i want to thank you Chris for the interview! this is our first international interview and it was so good to spend this time telling you a bit more about this 4 dudes known as Get Ready For This.  We'd like to thank to our families, friends and people supporting us! we love each one of our listeners, that's why we take our time replying each one of their comments; we're a hard working brand new band from a small town that wants a chance to reach as many hearts as we can (that's so cheesy, i know haha)
