Pop Punk's Not Dead's Top 10 Favourite Albums of 2011

10) Junior Battles- Idle Ages
I grew up going to Birchview Park Symphonic shows and had seen Junior Battles live many times, but never really got around to listening to their recorded stuff. I finally did and wish I had sooner. Idle Ages is a beautifully crafted original take on the Pop Punk genre.
9) Boys No Good- Never Felt Better
I’ve been a supporter of Boys No Good since their demo. They have kicked it up a notch with their debut full length and the inclusion of Jeff Harell’s raw yet melodic vocals.
8) Everyone Everywhere- The Rookie
Everyone Everywhere have filled the void that Daggermouth has left. Raw catchy Pop Punk from Vancouver.
7) Crucial Dudes- 61 Penn
Crucial Dudes continue with their brand of Saves The Day/Lifetime inspired Pop Punk, and I can’t get enough of it. Hopefully they’ll come back to Toronto again and play another show in that kitchen.
6) Neighborhoods- Facing A Lifetime
New Jersey’s Neighborhoods set out to make a record that resembled the first New Found Glory and Movielife albums and they succeeded. It’s definitely a fun, fast and nostalgic sounding record.
5) The Wonder Years- Surburbia
The Wonder Years can do no wrong in my eyes. I’ve been obsessed since Stoked On It.
4) Transit- Listen and Forgive
Transit have changed their sound a lot since their earlier releases but that’s not necessary a bad thing. They have constructed a beautiful, mellow album perfect for the fall/winter seasons.
3) Spraynard- Funtitled
Spraynard are the most underrated band in the Pop Punk scene. Amazing heartfelt lyrics and great sing alongs .
2) Man Overboard- ST
Lyrically and musically I feel that this is Man Overboard’s best work to date. This record got me through some tough times, I love every song.
1) The Story So Far- Under Soil and Dirt
This is 100% the best Pop Punk album of 2011. This record is raw, youthful, energetic and heartfelt. It will go down as “Through Being Cool/Tell All Your Friends” of this generation.

Turnover Interview (Virginia Emotional Pop Punk)

First off, state your name and role in Turnover.

My name is Danny and i play bass.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard it?

Emotional, punk rock.

How's the Pop Punk and Hardcore scene in Virginia?

Virginia's pop punk scene isn't very great right now. Not too many bands coming from the area. The shows are always awesome though a lot of kids enjoy the music. I just wish they'd all start bands. The hardcore scene here is great. Check out Lockdown, Paper Trail, and Tough Luck.

How did you get involved with Broken Rim Records?

Basically we self released the S/T EP digitally and he happened to come by it. He was one of a few people that was interested in helping us make it a physical release. We didn't really know Kyle personally at all but i feel like we just knew he was the perfect guy to work with. We were definitely right.

Can you give us some details on your upcoming winter tour with True Things?

This tour is gonna be a lot of fun because this will be our first time touring with another band. We're playing a lot of places we haven't yet which makes us really nervous. Hopefully kids come out to the shows and hopefully we don't freeze to death.

Any plans on playing in Canada in the new year?

We plan on it. We haven't put anything into action yet though.

What's the craziest thing you've seen while on tour or at a show?

We didn't really have anything too crazy happen on tour during the summer which is definitely a good thing i think. I think we may have seen a car on fire or something though. I saw some kid get knocked out at a The Story So Far show a few days ago. That was pretty crazy i guess.

What's your favourite show that you've played so far as a band?

Almost every show we played on tour this summer was great though. It was awesome seeing kids come out to our shows and knowing our lyrics. We never expected that. Buffalo, NY and Ashtabula, OH were probably my favorites though.

This spring you'll be releasing a split 7" with Michigan's Citzen. How did that come together? Can you give up any details on the new songs?

I've been talking to the guys in Citizen for a while now and we always just talked of the idea but didn't do anything about it. One day i brought it up to Kyle from BRR and he was really into it so we just made these ideas come to life. We're really excited to work with those guys. They write some really great music. Check out their new EP, Young States, if you haven't done so already (http://citizenmi.bandcamp.com/).

Do you guy's have any plans on writing/recording a full length album?

That's definitely what we think our next step is. We haven't started writing yet though.

What can your fans expect from Turnover in 2012?

A lot more touring, some new songs, and maybe an upside dog or two on facebook.

Thanks for your time, any final comments?

Thanks to you for doing this interview. We want everyone reading this to come hang out with us on tour. Bring us food.
