Boys No Good Interview
PPND- How would you describe your band to someone who hasn’t heard it.
TYLOR - I would like to think that we are a pop-punk band with our fundamental roots in early punk and hardcore music while at the same time not limited to either genre by any means. All of us grew up listening to different styles and genres of music, going to shows, playing in bands, skateboarding, surfing, and being hooligans...some of those things have changed but we don't forget where we came from or how those times shaped us both musically and as people. We want to have as much fun as possible and create music that we are proud of first and songs that people can relate their own experiences to.
PPND- What bands would you say have influenced Boys No Good the most?
JAMES - Damn this is always a tough question.. Like Tylor said we all come from pretty different musical backgrounds but some of the bands that I know all of us like and I hope we sound a little bit like are NEW FOUND GLORY, FALL OUT BOY, AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, NO WARNING, LIFETIME (obviously), KID DYNAMITE, SAVES THE DAY, HOT WATER MUSIC, DAG NASTY and a lot more.
PPND- Your debut Full length entitled “Never Felt Better” is being released on July 26th. Its sounds great, your sound has evolved from the demo. I love the new versions of the old songs as well. How did this album come to be?
JAMES - Thanks man, I'm stoked you're into it! I would say the main two things that have changed since we released the demo a year and a half ago are that we have two new members who have really helped the devolvement of the band and I think we have just really learned how to write together. We have a tighter chemistry now.
PPND- I really like the vocals on the new cd. How did Jeff Harrell join the band.
JAMES - Ha-ha this is a pretty crazy story actually.. Well let's turn back time to about 2 months ago..... We were practicing our asses off and doing some final tweaks to the songs before entering the studio and we all were really excited because we only two more weeks to wait before we start recording! Then one day I got a call from the owner of Indianola Records and he read my an email that Tommy (our singer at the time) had sent to him, in the email Tommy asked the label if he would get into legal trouble if he quit the band and did not record the album! This was HUGE shock to us! I thought Indianola was pulling a prank on me! I could not believe our singer was quitting the band 2 weeks before he hit the studio and this is how we were finding out! By him going straight to the owner of the label! So, the next day we all met up at a coffee shop and talked to Tommy and he told us that he had a new girlfriend and he didn't want to have to tour anymore or record the album or be in the band. It was crazy, none of us saw this coming. We were so so so stressed! But luckily we knew Jeff could sing and he is a good friend of ours so we called him up and he was very interested in joining the band and somehow he learned all 12 songs in 2 weeks! It was very impressive, he really saved the day! It was a tough situation but I'm glad it happened because we are a better band now then we have ever been and Jeff is an overall stronger musician then Tommy is and he is a blast to hang out with.
PPND- How did you get involved with Indianola Records?
TYLOR - Well Indianola has sort of a legacy here in Jacksonville and has been on our radar as musicians and fans since Evergreen Terrace signed with and put out their first album back in the early 2000's. All of us in the band have been extremely pleased with how friendly and interested the label has been with us. We talk with Matt from Indianola just about every day and he is always quick to tell us how excited he is about the record and the faith he has in us as a band and people. It made sense for a band of our size to sign with a label we all knew and loved.
PPND- On July 23rd you’re having your cd release show in Florida, with two quality bands, Rust Belt Lights and Take It Back. Any possible plans of doing a full tour with these bands.
TYLOR - Thankfully we are going to be on tour with both these bands for about 2 weeks total prior to and after the album release show on the 23rd. Very stoked to be going out with these great bands.
PPND- Do you plan on playing any shows in Canada?
TYLOR - Absolutely. I have always wanted to visit Canada. Growing up watching live punk show videos of all my favorite bands from venues in Canada has made playing music there myself sort of a life goal. I have heard that we are going to be on a full U.S. tour this fall with several stops in Canada. Very excited to play and visit..and all music aside I'm really just hoping to fall in love and marry a nice French-Canadian girl when we are up there!
PPND- What has been you favorite show you’ve played so far.
TYLOR - The show that has been the most fun so far to me is when we played the album release show for We Still Dream at Local Heroes in St. Augustine, FL back in March of 2011. The venue is so small and so close to our home in Jacksonville that our friends car pool down and turn the place basically into a house show with 100 people going nuts, singing along, and throwing beer everywhere. There was no stage and pretty sure none of us in the band could move around more than a foot due to the amount of people. Great night for sure.
PPND- What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened at a show?
JAMES - One of the shows that has really stuck with me was the very first show we ever played. It was really crazy for us because we didn't really know what to expect from the crowd, we didn't know if anyone was going to like us. We had released the demo about a month before we played out so we knew that some of our friends would know the songs but we didn't really think anyone else had heard us yet but when we opened out set with SO FAR GONE the crowd erupted! Everyone had memorized the lyrics and were singing along, people were doing stage dives and crowd riding, jumping on their friends shoulders to reach for the mic and kids were circle pitting during the fast parts! There were about 150 people at the show and they all seemed stoked on BNG! It was amazing! We had no idea that people were into on our band! It was great and crazy. I wish we had it on film.
PPND- How’s the pop punk and hardcore scene in Florida?
TYLOR - The scene seems to be doing well. I am always excited when we play shows with bands I've never heard of here in Florida with hopes that they will become one of my favorite bands. North Florida is definitely seeing a resurgence in the d.i.y. pop punk and hardcore scene. It is really awesome to see the venues we have in Jacksonville being put on the map for bands that are touring through our state as well as giving new bands a place to play in front of people eager to hear some good music.
PPND- What can we expect from BNG in 2011?
JAMES - Our debut album!! NEVER FELT BETTER! We also will be on the road A LOT! We love to be on tour, we love making new friends and we love finding swimming pools. Hopefully we will be doing a lot of those things in 2011.
PPND- Any final comment for your fans?
JAMES - THANKS! YOU'RE RAD!

Boys No Good- Never Felt Better- Review
Band- Boys No Good
Album- Never Felt Better
Label- Indianola Records
Release Date- July 26th, 2011
Boys No Good are a hardcore influenced pop punk band from Florida. They feature members from hard hitting Florida Hardcore bands Casey Jones and Kids Like Us. Their debut demo had a lot of promise but their full length “Never Felt Better” (being released July 26th, on Indianola Records) takes them to the next level. Jeff Harrell’s raw yet melodic vocals are a refreshing change in a genre with mostly clean high pitched vocals. His voice gives the band a more grown up feel to them. The band’s hardcore roots shines throughout, none of the heavier parts feel forced or disjointed at all. Fans of their previous work will love the new versions of “End of a good day” and “Cut Your Heart Out”, and they are sure to gain new fans with anthems like “Bold City Tigers”. If you’re sick of all the carbon copy Four Year Strong rip off bands, and you want some authentic Hardcore Pop Punk, make sure you pick up this album, you won't be disappointed.

July Interview
I recently did an interview with Brampton, Ontario's July. Check them out at http://www.facebook.com/wearejuly
PPND- How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard of July?
July- I would say its balls out pop punk along the lines of late 90's/early 00's pop punk, but there is a lot of modern and top 40 sneaking in there too.
PPND- What bands would you say are your biggest influence?
July- Our influences range from bands like New Found Glory, blink-182, and Yellowcard, to other things like hip hop.
PPND- You shot a music video back in March. How did it go?
July- Ehhhhh... The shooting of the video was good, the end product, not so much…
PPND- How has the response been to your debut EP "The Best Nights"
July- Honestly, it's been much better than we've expected. Everyone who hears it loves it and our local scene has been very supportive. We couldn't ask for a better response.
PPND- Do you have any plans on recording a full length?
July- For sure, we're already about 12 songs into pre pro, some of them are riffs and drums, some are full songs. We like to write as much as possible and then go through our demos and pick the best ones. We're hoping to start recording the full length by the fall.
PPND- You recently recorded of cover of Rebecca Black's Friday. Do you plan doing any more covers?
July- We were playing around with the idea of covering an older pop punk song that we all love, something off of Bleed American or Dude Ranch. Then we were playing with the idea of covering the YMCA, but we don't want people to think that we just cover bad songs, hahaha.
PPND- There seems to be a resurgence of Pop Punk in Ontario right now. Besides you guys, there's a lot of quality pop punk bands, Live The Story, UTKF, Bathurst, To Tell The Tale, Attention, are all great. No one is really that well known yet. Do you think Pop Punk has a chance of becoming more popular in Ontario.
July- We really hope so. Right now Canada (especially Toronto) is big into indie and folk. It's really hard for us few pop punk bands to get noticed when our audience and scene isn't really here. But I think that we're all doing a pretty good job at trying to make a good name for pop punk in Ontario again. I'd love it if Toronto was up there with San Diego was in the late 90s for pop punk.
PPND- What's your favourite show that you've ever played?
July- Our CD release at All Stars bar was intense, we packed the place and had people launching off stage and screaming every word with us. It was a huge party.
PPND- What's your favourite show that you've attended?
We went to All Time Low in Toronto recently, and as well as loving the concert, we walked up and down the line with an iPod playing our music and managed to sell 80 copies of our EP. We made a lot of fans and got to enjoy a good show.
PPND- Do you have any plans on touring this summer?
July- We definitely wanna tour, but we need to get the funds together and find someone who wants to tour with us. We're working our asses off right now and hope that we can get something awesome going by mid summer.
PPND- Do you have any final comments for your fans.
July- Thank you so much for everything, you've all been so receptive of everything and welcomed us newcomers into the scene with open arms. We do this for you guys as much as we do it for us, and we can never thank you guys enough.

Still Rings True Interview
I recently interviewed Josh Snyder from New York's Still Rings True.
PPND-How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it?
SRT- We're a melodic punk rock/hardcore band with a socially conscious message. We play fast as fuck and put everything we've got in to every single song.
PPND- One thing that sets Still Rings True apart from a lot of other bands in the genre are the lyrics.
You tend to write socially conscious songs rather than break up songs. How important are the lyrics to you.
SRT- Lyrics are of the highest importance to us. Think of it this way: the music is the medium, but the lyrics are the message. The lyrics to a song are what's going to hit people the hardest, get in to their hearts or their minds. Then you use the music to back up that emotion or idea sonically.
PPND- Your new album “Tear Down The Walls” has a bit more of a darker feel than your debut full length "I Wouldn't Call This Living". How did the new album come together?
SRT- In the fall of 2010 we hooked up with Third Time Lucky Rekords and released a four song EP called 'Anger Is A Gift', which had a way darker, heavier, more aggressive feel than our earlier stuff. We basically sat down and decided that we didn't feel the music we were writing up to that point carried the emotion that we were trying to get across in our lyrics, so we went darker, and in the process, really found our own sound.
PPND- What bands have influenced you the most?
SRT- A couple bands that are huge influences to be personally are Propagandhi, NOFX, and Black Flag. All three of those bands pretty much shaped my life as I grew up, and they'll always be a part of everything I do.
PPND- How did you get involved with Third Time Lucky Rekords?
SRT- We had done a few shows in their area, and one thing led to another. We originally worked out a merch deal with them, but as we talked and figured that all out, it kinda became a full on thing. TTLR is the raddest group of dudes I have ever met in my life, and they have a passion and intensity for this music and this scene that can't be matched. Those dudes are the real deal, expect big things from them, for sure.
PPND- What’s your favourite place to play live.
SRT- Any show where kids are in to music and in to having a good time. I don't really have a favorite spot, as much as I just love the experience of playing a good show, no matter where it is. Home town shows for us are really insane, and just keep getting bigger and better. That means so much to us, having that solid foundation to move forward from. We really love our hometown scene and venue.
PPND- What’s the weirdest thing that has happended while on tour.
SRT- Well, there's really too many to tell here, so i'll kind of narrow it down and just drop a few one line mind-fucks on you real quick: watching a homeless lady shit in a parking lot in broad daylight, getting arrested on felony charges in NJ, having van impounded and having to scale freeway over passes and 6 lane highways in the middle of the night, van breakdowns, blow ups, blow outs, all that good shit. The list goes on and on and on and on....
PPND- Do you plan on ever playing in Canada?
SRT- Yeah we've had tons of offers for shows and tours up there, and we really want to get up there and play for some new kids and scenes, we've just been busting our ass down here getting our shit out to as many places and people as we can. Once we get the proper ID's and shit, we'll be up there fo sho.
PPND- How’s the Pop Punk and Hardcore scene in your part of New York? How’s the vibe at shows?
SRT- It's one of those hidden gems, Watertown. It's a small shitty city, and there's NOTHING to do there at all most of the time. But we have this rad little venue, and you'll throw a local show on a weeknight and get up to 200 kids just going fucking insane. It's absolutely amazing. The bands in the area are awesome, no one sounds the same, (unlike most other places we've been!) and the kids sincerely care about music and bands. They stay through out shows, support ALL the bands, and buy merch. We really couldn't ask for a better home town scene.
PPND- Are there any other bands/friends that you could recommend?
SRT- Alive and Well out of Burlington Vermont. Lie Captive out of Plattsburgh New York. Atlas out of Watertown New York. Get A Life out of Harrisburgh Pennsylvania. All amazing bands, check them out.
PPND- What’s next for Still Rings True in 2011?
SRT- Right now we're in the middle of our first week of tour with a band called Broadside out of Richmond Virginia. We're with these dudes for three more weeks, the we go home for about ten days before heading back out with Lie Captive. We're on tour all summer with a bunch of really amazing bands, and we're just pushing this new record as hard as we can, spreading the word, getting kids stoked. Check out a show near you, and make sure to hit us up online to pick up a copy of our new record 'Tear Down The Walls' or grab some merch.
PPND- Any final comments for your fans?
SRT- Think.

A Place In Time Interview
PPND- How would you describe you music to someone who has never heard it?
APIT- Well, Remember what pop punk sounded like in the late 90's when it was at a peak with bands like New Found Glory or Yellowcard? Think about how different they sound from today's pop punk, like Set Your Goals or Fireworks. A Place In Time sounds like both of those, we think.
PPND- I just recently heard your new EP “Not For Nothing”, it’s really fun and catchy. The production is also great. How did it come together? Where was it recorded?
APIT- Well, A Place In Time was originally two separate bands: A Place In Time and Robots Are Watching. After we joined together we basically kept a few songs from both projects, and the rest was just us creating. You know, figuring out what sound was in our hearts. We just tried to make songs we'd listen to on a daily basis. As far as production, we recorded with Greg Parker at Amped Recordings. His production skills speak for themselves, and he's also a really cool dude. You can tell he cares about everything music.
PPND- You decided to release it as a free download. I think it’s a good idea to release a debut EP for free to get your initial fan base, which will stick with you in the future. What were your reasons for making it free?
APIT- Well you pretty much hit the nail on the head. We did it because what people want is music. And I don't know how many times I've wanted a lesser-known band's stuff in my library, but could only get it at shows. I hate that feeling. We understand that when people get interested, they want it now. We could have sold it digitally, but I'll be the first to say there's nothing better than free tunes.
PPND- Do you have any plans on touring anytime soon?
APIT- Hopefully sometime soon. We're still trying to get all out stuff together at the moment. But we've been looking at this winter with high hopes.
PPND- Do you plan on ever playing any shows in Canada?
APIT- We plan playing shows everywhere we can! But most of us have never been to Canada, so I'm gonna say it's pretty high up the list of places we want to tour.
PPND- Have you guys been contacted by any record labels yet?
APIT- We've been talking with a few, but we've been more focused on other things right now, like better equipment, and writing never seems to stop.
PPND- What has been your favourite show that you’ve played so far?
APIT- It either has to be the Go Home Freshmen show in Middleton, MD, because Fredrick kids always know how make a good show, and their support just makes us feel at home, or the show we played with Ice Nine Kills and Where the Ocean Meets the Sky at Jaxx in Virginia. It was total metalcore/deathcore show, but we went up there and played our hearts out, and those kids got in the pit and supported the hell out of us, even when a few other people there were talking crap because we weren't their favorite genre. We don't see support like that often.
PPND- What band do you dream of sharing the stage with?
APIT- Every band out there who is full of cool dudes and a love for music.
PPND- How’s the pop punk scene in Maryland? Are there any bands that you could recommend?
APIT- It's incredible. Great music, great venues, and great friends. The DMV region altogether really. Bands that people definitely need to check out are This is Our Fight, Go Home Freshmen, The Dukes, Action League Now, Distances, Coastal, there's really too many to list.
PPND- What can your fans expect in 2011?
APIT- Plenty. Like I said before, writing is always happening. We have so many projects we're working on that we're at the point where we need to decide what we're going to keep. We as a band are growing even more into our own, and our music is growing with it. Fans should expect a lot more meaning in everything to come regarding A Place In Time in the future. We're doing and making things surprise even us. We'll be playing even more shows this summer, and we just can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been working on.
PPND- Any final comments for your fans?
APIT- Thanks for all the support you guys have given us. That and the fact that we can't not write music even if we wanted are the two awesome things that keep us going. We have to thank all the kids from Frederick, MD who've been with us since the first show last summer. Lookout for a lot more awesome things to come. We promise we won't disspoint!
